This is my first post and I thought that I would share a crochet pattern that I made of Stan from South Park.
A couple of notes about the pattern...
When crocheting in the round, I crochet so that the right side of the work faces the inside of my shape. I bring this up, because in the pattern I tried to create texture in the folded up part of the hat, the collar, and where the shirt meets the pants. I did this by crocheting in only one loop that is toward the inside of the shape. So front loop if the inside of the shape is facing you, back loop if the outside of the shape is facing you.
Also, when crocheting in the round, I join the round with a slip stitch, then chain 1 before I start the next round. But in amigurumi, the rounds are not joined, and are worked continuously using a marker to mark the beginning of the round. Please use whatever method you like better.
Special Stitch:
3 dc cluster: yo, insert hook in next sc, yo, pull through sc, yo, pull through
two loops on hook, (yo, insert hook in same sc, yo, pull through
sc, yo, pull through two loops on hook) two times, yo, pull
through all remaining loops on hook.
And I like to start with a magic circle, but you can also start with a chain 2 and sc in the 2nd chain from the hook.
Body: starting with black
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic circle (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around (12)
Rnd 3: 2 sc in each sc around (24)
Rnd 4: (1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around (36)
Rnd 5: (1 sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around (48)
Rnd 6: (1 sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around (54)
Rnd 7: 1 sc in each sc around (54)
Rnd 8: (1 sc in next 2 sc, sc next 2 sc tog) around to last two sc, sc last 2 sc
tog (40)
Switch to blue
Rnds 9-12: sc in each sc around (40)
Rnd 13: 1 sc in each front loop around (40) *the loop on the inside of the work
Switch to brown
Rnd 13: *this step is done in the same round as the previously worked round

Now row 13 should have an outside ring of brown and an inside ring of blue

Finish off. Before I stuffed the body, I used black yarn and I sewed around the outside edge of the feet from the top through to the bottom to create more definiton. Stuff body making sure to shape the bottom so that it stays flat for standing.
Head: starting with blue
Rnd 1: 6 sc in a magic circle (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around (12)
Rnd 3: (1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around (18)
Rnd 4: (1 sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around (24)

Rnd 6: (1 sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around (36)

Start stuffing now and keep stuffing and shaping the head as you go.Rnd 24: (1 sc in next 3 sc, sc next 2 sc tog) around (24)

Finish off leaving enough yarn to close opening. Sew head to body opening so that the face is tilted a little up. Add stuffing if needed.
Arms (make 2): starting with brown
Chain 14, slip stitch in first chain to form ring
Rnds 1-5: 1 sc in each sc around (14)
Switch to red
Rnd 6: (1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around (21)
Rnd 7: 1 sc in next 5 sc, a 3 dc cluster in next sc, 1 sc in last 15 sc (20 sc, 1
cluster)
Rnd 8: sc next 2 sc tog around (10) *skip the cluster
Rnd 9: sc next 2 sc tog around (5)
Finish off leaving enough yarn to close opening. Push the cluster so that it is sticking towards the outside of the arm to form the thumb. Stuff the arms and sew to sides of body making sure the thumbs are facing towards the front.
Cut out two oval shaped eyes from white felt and sew them to the head with thread.
With black yarn, embroider the coat deatails, the mouth, and where the eyes meet. You could also make the pupils with yarn, but I used a Sharpie. I wish I had used yarn because the ink kind of spreads and it's hard to get good definition when drawing on felt.
And last, make a little puff ball with red yarn and attach to the top of the head.
